Future touring articles

Some potential future touring articles, based on previous cycling trips, are listed below. In the meantime, if you have any questions about these routes, please email me.

South Gippsland (Victoria)

The route I cycled in March 2011 was a two day loop beginning and ending at Leongatha. It incorporated the Great Southern Rail Trail and passed through Koonwarra, Fish Creek, Sandy Point, Bear Gully (free campsite on the coast), Cape Liptrap and Venus Bay. I will also include some extra information about cycling Phillip Island.

Yarra Ranges (Victoria)

A three-and-a-half day cycle tour accessible from Melbourne by public transport. The route follows the Warburton Rail Trail from Lilydale to Warburton, then skirts around the Upper Yarra Watershed along Woods Point Road. It explores some beautiful forests in the high country along the Upper Thomson River, just off the Baw Baw Plateau, before dropping down to Noojee on the La Trobe River. From here, return to Lilydale via Powelltown. The highlight of this trip was the splendid and largely unspoilt forests around the Upper Yarra, Thomson and La Trobe River Catchments. The route is about 300km with plenty of climbing and over half unsealed. I cycled this in March 2011.

Namadgi Cycle Tour and the ACT

The Namadgi cycle tour is a two-and-a-half day trip I did in February 2010. It cycles through large sections of Namadgi National Park, which lies within the Australian Capital Territory (ACT). The route is: Tuggeranong (Canberra) - Corin Forest - Smokers Fire Trail - Orroral Valley - Old Boboyan Road - Naas Valley Fire Trail - Tharwa - Tuggeranong. When I write up this tour I plan to supplement it with other cycling routes within the ACT and extensions to the two-and-a-half day tour mentioned above. This would include cycling routes in the Cotter, Tidbinbilla and Mt Franklin areas.

Cycling in the Central West of NSW

This would be some kind of extension my Cycling the Central Tablelands of NSW pages. Towns covered would include Orange, Manildra, Parkes, Forbes, Bogan Gate, Eugowra, Young, Grenfell, Canowindra, Goologong and Wellington.

Tasmania

In 2000 I did a 24 day tour of Tasmania, largely following the itinerary suggested by GIRO Tasmania. I do not intend to reproduce their work, but I did write a travel diary on my trip. If I have time I may post the diary online with photos.

Other places I have cycled

The following list details other places I have cycled, but may not write articles on. Feel free to contact me if you have queries.
